What I Hope President Barack Obama Addresses in State of the Union Speech

COMMENTARY | MSNBC reports that President Barack Obama will hit the airwaves Feb. 24, in his State of the Union Address. There are a lot of issues still going on including the economy, housing market, and the future of our military troops, so this is a very important speech. As a Republican voter and American, here are three things I want to hear, and think Obama should talk about, during his State of the Union speech.

I hope that Obama talks about the state of the economy, and whether or not things are looking up since last year. I realize that Obama is not going to just come out and say the economy is tanking, even if it was true, but he needs to be more specific with the American people. From the looks of it, I would say that the economy has not improved any since last year, and I want to hear what he intends to do this year to help the outlook improve. I am not voting for Obama since I am a Republican, but I am curious to hear what his goals are for the rest of this year. I have went online and noticed not many job listings are being posted, so I want to know if any more tax breaks will go toward the companies willing to hire in America.

I also want to hear Obama talk about the future of the middle class, and am very interested to see if he uses the “share the wealth” taglines tonight. Obama has been talking a lot about everybody paying their fair share, which I think is only a way to start class warfare among the American people. When the line about everyone needing to pay their fair share is uttered, it usually means that a tax hike is going to be in the near future, which is something our economy does not need right now. With the middle class still struggling, Obama needs to come out with a plan of action, which does not involve taking hard-earned money from the wealthier American people.

As an American, I am also concerned about the future of healthcare, and want Obama to address the latest part of the healthcare bill that has taken effect. The latest part of the healthcare bill to be implemented was that free birth control will be provided to women, and I do not understand how this is cost-effective at all. If women get free birth control, then the cost will be passed down to the consumer, through higher insurance premiums or something else. Obama needs to address the healthcare bill, what changes we might see this year, and explain how changes are more cost effective.
