Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery Rates Spike by 5 Times, Blamed on Media and Porno

The ever growing rates of genital cosmetic surgery has ballooned to 5 times its previous rate, and the increase has occurred within only 10 years. Studies show that mainly women have driven increase. Researchers have also found that people as young as 11 years old have requested surgeries, and that unrealistic expectations by the media, clinics and porno have seemingly contributed to self-consciousness on a large scale.

Is Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery Necessary?

The University College of London did a study on 33 women. All the women had received a reference from a GP after making a request to decrease the size of their labia. Out of the 33 women, 8 of them were schoolgirls. One of the schoolgirls was 11 years old.

To see if the requests were necessary, gynecologists measured the women’s vaginas, based on length and width. These measurements were then compared with size measurements that are considered to be standard.

They found that out of the 33 women, only 3 had asymmetrical vaginas. Even though this information was presented to the women, 40% of them will wanted to have vaginal cosmetic surgery done anyway.

15 of the women said they became unhappy about their vaginas when they were younger than 15, while 12 said it occurred at a later age.

Porn and Media Inspired

The researchers blamed the spikes in genital cosmetic surgeries on unrealistic expectations found in the media. Pornographic centerfolds, videos and images on the Internet may have contributed to the increased self-consciousness.

They also pointed out that TV shows that feature genital cosmetic surgery have also increased the demand. Partners commenting on their vaginas’ appearances have also triggered sensitivity.

Marketing Genital Cosmetic Surgery

A research project named The New View Campaign Working Group on Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery did a study on the claims that clinics have been making in order to drive up more business.

They found that marketing campaigns centered on feminist concepts. These included feelings of being empowered, and being able to make use of choice. One procedure that has gained popularity is the “G-Shot,” which was popularized on the TV show “Dr. 90210″. His clinic injects collagen in order to improve sexual experiences.

One woman who had the procedure went as far to even say, “After my G shot, I get sexually aroused performing yoga.” The research group has found that many of the claims made by clinics are unsubstantiated.
