Travel Horror Story: Stand-by Sucks

It’s said, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas; but, before anything can happen in Vegas you have to get there. So begins my travel horror story.

My kids and I wanted nothing more than to travel to Las Vegas in June of 2007 for my mom’s 50th birthday. The first day we got up early and went to the airport and waited all day for seats to fly out of St. Louis. Unfortunately, a storm came through and we didn’t make it to Vegas, however our luggage did.

Day 2 was worse because everyone who didn’t get out of St. Louis the previous day were all trying to get seats. Next thing we knew the kids and I were once again back home, hoping Day 3 we’d finally be in Las Vegas.

When day 3 came, we finally got on a plane and flew out of St. Louis but, we were flying east not west, to Cincinnati. The kids and I sat around in the airport; we were tired and frustrated and I was becoming an emotional wreck. We ended up in a hotel in Cincinnati and my mom’s birthday was quickly approaching and we were no closer to her than we had been 4 days ago.

At long last we ended up making it to Las Vegas on the last flight of Day 4. We touched down two hours before my mom’s birthday, thank you time difference. Flying stand-by is no longer an option for us!
