When people get married, they assume that life will be the same as before the wedding, except that they now wear a ring and live in the same home as their mate. This is not a realistic way to think, when you start sharing a life with another person things change dramatically. There are certain things that one spouse or the other can do that will have huge effects on the marriage. They may not even be doing them on purpose, but their spouse will take note of the actions of their spouse. We all have to work to get by, but if you want your marriage to last you need to take time off to spend with your spouse.

Spending money in secret is a major issue in most marriages. Money is the number one destroyer of most families in this country. The family finances have to be totally open to both spouses; there can be no secrets when it comes to finances. When it comes to killing a marriage, the number two killer behind money is family relationships. Spending time with your family is important, but putting them ahead of your spouse is wrong. Taking your families side against your spouse can make them feel like they are not loved or wanted. Once married you are creating your own family, and your spouse and kids need to come before your parents, siblings, friends, or co-workers. Making a marriage work is all about setting your priorities in the right order, and working at the marriage. Successful marriages do not happen, they are created.
