The Lesson

You taught me well

Of this I am sure.

Your love scarred deep,

Like a knife’s jagged edge

Twisted and turned

Leaving an open wound.

You taught me of love.

Your love lies spoke

To my accepting soul.

An eclipse over your heart,

Red eyes beseech me.

If I love you, I let you go.

I let you go.

The knife twists another turn.

Damn your smile

And those trusted eyes.

Damn the promises

Turned to lies.

Pain-filled heart,

Torn by the knife

Twisting and wrenching.

You taught me well

Of this I am sure.

Strengthened am I.

Independent, I fly.

But damn your smile,

And those trusted eyes.
