Taking Care of a Persian Lamb Coat

Karakul sheep have glossy, tightly curled fur that is used for hats and high-end coats. If you happen to be lucky enough to obtain a Persian lamb coat, it is important to properly care for it so you ensure it stays in optimal condition for many years to come.

Store your Persian lamb coat while you are not using it in a closet and hang it on a padded hanger. Check that the coat has plenty of room and is not touching other clothes. The fur needs room to breathe.

Take your coat to a professional furrier while you are not using it. Furriers are educated on the proper care of fur and how to ensure it stays in optimal condition. You can either send the coat to the furrier you purchased the coat from or ask him where to take it.

Send your Persian lamb coat to be professionally cleaned at least once a year. It should go to a cleaner that has experience cleaning this type of coat. If you do not wear the coat very often, you can get by with cleaning it less often.

Tips

Avoid storing the fur coat in direct sunlight or humid areas.

Keep the coat away from strong scents since these can cling to the fur and are difficult to get rid of.

If you do get the fur coat wet and get a stain on it, take it to a professional fur cleaner immediately. Do not use stain removers on it or you could damage the coat.

When you sit down, you should take the coat off and lay it on a flat surface. This will avoid indentations or impressions on the coat.
