Strange Uses for Vodka

Vodka isn’t just for drinking anymore. Since the Middle Ages, vodka has been known as one of the world’s most popular spirits. It is extremely versatile and has a high alcohol content, which has made it one of the first choices in many cocktails. It has also been widely used as medicine throughout history. It has been used to cure everything from infertility to the plague. Some of these uses weren’t exactly medically accurate but there are many other legitimate uses for this favorite beverage.

Use it to treat poison ivy. Nothing ruins a nice camping trip like running into poison ivy, oak, or sumac. Pour some vodka on the skin that has come into contact with the plant. It will wash away the oil that causes you to break out. Some people say that the vodka must be at least 100 proof for it to actually work. Rubbing alcohol works as well, but chances are you’re more likely to have vodka with you on your camping trip or picnic than a big bottle of rubbing alcohol.

Make your appliances and fixtures shine. Instead of going out and buying some name brand chemical cleaner to make your appliances and fixtures shine like new, simply grab a bottle of vodka. Get a clean, soft cloth and get it damp. Then all that’s left to do is to buff your kitchen or bathroom into shining beauty.

Use it as bug repellant. There are few things that are more annoying than getting eaten alive by mosquitos while you’re trying to relax outside on a summer night. Pour some vodka into a spray bottle and keep it with you. Spray the bugs or spray it directly on yourself for a nice insect repellant.

Add it to your shampoo. Kitchen appliances aren’t the only thing that vodka helps. Add a little to your bottle of shampoo and your hair will easier to manage, healthier and shiny.

Ease a toothache. If your tooth is killing you and you can’t get into the dentist right away, swish a little vodka around in your mouth over the affected area. It will help disinfect your mouth and should help numb the pain a little.
