Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”: Finally a Film Adaptation

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is Stephen Chbosky’s debut novel, released in 1999.

The novel was required reading when I was in high school (at least for certain English classes), and since has made quite the stir among literary circles in regards to its subject matter being used in classrooms.

Now over ten years later, the book is finally being made into a movie.

Due out in 2012, the film will star Logan Lerman as Charlie, Emma Watson as Sam, Paul Rudd as Bill, Ezra Miller as Patrick, Nina Dobrev as Candace, Melanie Lynskey as Aunt Helen, Mae Whitman as Mary Elizabeth, Johnny Simmons as Brad, Nicholas Braun as Derek, and more.

Lucky for us, author Stephen Chbosky is both writing and directing the movie– perhaps why it took so long to bring this film project to fruition.

Overall, I’m happy simply because this film is being made, although I do think Watson was an excellent choice for Sam.

Now all we need is an equally enticing soundtrack to match.
