Dakotas Restaurant

Nestled in the heart of downtown Dallas sits Dakotas Restaurant. The facility was built on a piece of property that was originally owned by one of the largest churches in the country, First Baptist Church. Because of the original owner and a clause that was placed in the sale of the property, no alcoholic beverages are allowed to be sold anywhere on the property. The way this restaurant overcame that obstacle was by building some of the facility underground. “On church property,” and “below church property,” is defined two different ways by law. Since part of the building is now underground, the restaurant is no longer considered “on church property.”

A slow ride down to the restaurant will place you 18-feet underground and open you up to an 1,800-square foot space. You can then walk over to Dakotas and hand-pick your own steak, which has been aging for four weeks. The aging allows the steak to get very tender. You can choose from one of the many rib-eye, porterhouse and New York Strip steaks or decide you stomach can handle the 20 ounce steak known as the “Cowboy.”
