Self-Publishing: Nightmare or ???

Have you ever wanted to write a book? Have you actually done it? Writing is one of the most rewarding things that I can think of doing. I am an author. I have written fourteen books and have published seven of them. I am currently working on publishing the rest.

Purpose

The purpose of this article is not to tell you how to write or where to get your ideas. The purpose of this article is to tell you my experience with self-publishing.

Rejections

After writing several books of one hundred fifty pages or more per book I decided to send my manuscripts in for publishing. After getting several rejections I decided it was too costly for me.

Self-Publishing

I checked out several self-publishing companies (there are good ones and bad ones) and after receiving their quotes for publishing my book I decided that the final price that I would have to charge was too high. What should I do?

Publishing My Own Books

I did some research and found out that I could buy my own book binding machine. I bought on ebay a PERFECT HOT GLUE BOOK BINDER BINDING MACHINE w/4-in-1. It cost less than one thousand dollars and is very easy to use. I design and print my own covers and books! What more could I ask for.

ISBN Numbers

Since I print my own books I do not currently need any ISBN numbers. If I decide to try and sell them through book stores I will need the ISBN numbers. Also I do not need the bar codes since I only sell my books by their titles. With my book binding machine I can print out the number of books that I want to fill the orders.

Advantage

Another great advantage to printing my own books is the lower price that I can charge for them. I can sell a professionally bound book of two hundred pages for less than ten dollars. Try doing that by using a self-publishing company. Impossible!!

How To Advertise

There are several ways to advertise. You can place articles in your local newspaper. You can ask bookstores if they would be willing to display your books and sell them on consignment. You can advertise on ebay. You can Twitter your books or Facebook your books
