Bible verses are very comforting when we as Christians are going through difficult times. In this article, I focus on five verses that have personally been a great comfort to me through uncertainty about the future.
1. Isaiah 52:12 – “For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”
This verse has been a great comfort to me when I have been unsure about my future.
When I was attending my final year of college, I had a lot of uncertainty about what I was to do after I graduated. This verse was a great comfort because it talks about the Lord going before you and going behind you. He knows our future and He knows our past. He is with us and has already walked the path before we have even gone forward. He knows the plans He has for us. We must wait for Him and follow His lead.
2. Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
When we are afraid of what is to come, we can cling to the promise that God knows what His plans are for our lives. We have only to trust in Him and allow Him to show us the way in His perfect timing.
3. Psalm 33:11 – “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.”
The Lord’s counsel will stand. Man can give counsel to man, but the only counsel that will last forever is the counsel of the Lord.
4. 1 Peter 5:7 – “casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
When you are feeling anxious, remember that God cares for you, and allow Him to take your anxieties away. He will take your burdens and carry them on His shoulders. We were not meant to carry our burdens alone.
5. Isaiah 48:21 – “They did not thirst when He led them through the deserts; He made water flow for them from the rock; He split the rock and the water gushed out.”
No matter what kind of dry time in your life you are facing, you can know that God walks with you through the desert. When it seems like all is lost, and you are feeling hopeless, God shows you a tiny piece of His plan for your life, and you will be in awe every time as He reveals pieces of His awesome plan for you. He brings rain in a time of drought, we just have to keep our eyes and heart open to what He is trying to show us through the dry times.
