Two of our favorite fathers are set to return to “NCIS” in Season 9. It seems this season focuses quite a bit on family reunions. We already know that Tim McGee’s grandmother will be making an appearance. Now we also know the fathers of Gibbs and Tony will also be coming back. Fans are anxious to see what Robert Wagner and Ralph Waite will be doing to disrupt their children’s lives this time.
The last time we saw Tony DiNozzo’s father, he was helping the team with a case. Tony was able to discover that his father actually did care about him. While it brought the two closer together, his father still had to leave. After all, his life was built around being suave and a great con man. We were able to see where Tony got much of his charm and happy-go-lucky attitude.
Every time father Gibbs returns, it seems everyone but Gibbs is happy. He is quite the charmer, especially to Ziva and Abby. Tony and McGee love hearing stories about the past and trying to learn why Gibbs is the way he is. However, the last time he appeared, the show ended with the two actually getting along with no problems.
So why all the family love for Season 9? In fact, there’s actually more family to go around. Rumors have it Abby’s brother will make an appearance as well. Since we haven’t actually gotten into Abby’s family, this could be fun. “NCIS” covers every angle, including getting into the personal lives of the characters. Much of the last few seasons was based around the love lives of our favorites. Now it’s time to delve into their family lives a little more closely.
Gibbs could actually benefit from having his father return, especially after the death of his close friend Mike Franks. With everything Tony is having to deal with, an appearance from his father could be the perfect distraction. It’s yet to be seen whether the family appearances will have anything to do with any cases, but at the very least they will be extremely entertaining. Whether drama or comedy, “NCIS” fans are going to love meeting new family members and greeting old ones.
The only thing that is for certain is Abby’s family story, which will occur within the first six episodes. It is set to be a story line no one will expect. Is it something good or bad? We can only watch and find out.
