Ever since they first came out, my wife and I have given quite a few different TGI Friday’s frozen entrees a try. And, at one point, we were picking one up every couple of weeks. And, after several disappointments (more disappointments than dinners we actually liked), we pretty much gave up buying products from this brand.
However, my wife recently had a coupon for TGI Friday’s Sizzling Shrimp Stir Fry and, mostly because she was trying to find things we could make without a lot of effort after working all day, she decided to pick up a package of it. If nothing else, she figured, it would be an OK meal for two.
Naturally, after so much frustration with this brand, I was a bit skeptical about this product and pretty much went out of my way to avoid making it. But, last night, I finally decided to have this for dinner. And, I have to admit, it was better than I thought it would be.
I have had other skillet-type meals from the TGI Friday’s brand before and always found them to be a bit complicated because they usually required several steps (which didn’t make them any more convenient than just making the food from scratch). One thing I noticed about this stir fry dinner was it was much easier. All I had to do was put a little cooking oil in the frying pan, add the stir fry and cook it for about 12 minutes. It was ready to eat right about the time my wife and I were settled enough to have dinner.
As far as taste goes, I thought it was pretty decent. There was plenty of shrimp in it (which is something I can’t say about a lot of similar products) and, while a bit on the spicy side, the stir fry had a good flavor to it. I don’t know if it would be as good as something I would get at a restaurant but, compared to some other frozen dinners, I thought it exceeded expectations.
My only real complaint (as always) was the quantity. It was a dinner for two but the two servings weren’t very large and, as a result, my wife and I were still hungry after eating this. Just like I have said in the past about other brands, it’s something you will want to have with breadsticks or some other side dish.
Overall though, I do think this product was worth buying. I’m not sure if I would pay full price for it. But, if we had another coupon (or they reduced the price), I would consider buying it again.
