The BeBook Club ‘S’ eReader is known for its vibrant Pearl E-Ink display, great storage options, seemingly fast speeds, and its new navigation tool, but unfortunately, it’s not without flaws and has a few less than ideal features.
Lack of Touchscreen Support
Lots of modern budget touchscreens like the Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle, and Barnes & Noble Nook feature touchscreen E-Ink display support, but unfortunately that’s not an option available on the new BeBook Club ‘S’ eReader. The BeBook Club ‘S’ relies on tactile button controls and although it goes about navigation in an innovative way, it pales in comparison to touchscreen navigation.
Poor eBook Eco System
One of the key features of popular eBook readers like the Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, and Barnes & Noble Nook is their eBook eco system or book store. Unfortunately, the BeBook Club ‘S’ doesn’t having the powerful eBook backing of an Amazon, Sony, or Barnes & Noble and doesn’t offer as many titles as the leading eReaders on the market.
Slow Page Turns
The BeBook Club ‘S’ is faster than most standard grayscale E-Ink eReaders and features a 800MHz processor that allows it to move faster than most budget eReaders, but although it’s relatively faster than the average eReader, it’s still a bit slow. Regardless of the processor or hardware, E-Ink eReaders will likely always sport inferior speeds than LCD-based eBook reading tablets.
Lack of Features
If you’re just looking to read eBooks with great book-like reading quality, the BeBook Club ‘S’ will be perfect for you, but that’s about all that you’ll be able to accomplish with this eReader. Unlike its biggest competitors, the BeBook Club ‘S’ lacks web browsing, email, apps, and other features that are becoming staples on modern day tablets.
Controls Leave a Lot to Be Desired
When deciding on a eReader, navigation can be a major concern and while most eReaders opt for touchscreen navigation, tactile controls, and QWERTY keyboards, the BeBook Club ‘S’ features a new tactile-like navigation control that can take some getting used to and leaves a bit to be desired. The BeBook Club ‘S’s navigation buttons are located in several places along this eBook reader’s frame and seem a bit too confusing to make for practical use.
