Paper Napkin Baby Outfits

It often happens that, if you have friends who are close to your age, you all have babies who are close in age. That’s just one reason why you’ll have to come up with something adorable and unique when it comes to your upcoming baby shower. After three or four baby showers close together you can’t get by with serving the same foods as they did, or decorating with the same theme. Of course, there will be napkins, and there’s lots of different types you can purchase. But you’ll make the most endearing napkins when you just choose plain ones, and turn them into little baby outfits. The outfits are still napkins for your guests but they will far outshine the napkins at other baby showers.

A paper napkin baby outfit is so simple to make that you’ll be able to create one for each of your guests in a short amount of time. Choose a solid color of napkin, like pink or blue, or use a baby-theme napkin from a store that sells a large variety. Set the napkin in front of you so that the wrong side is facing up, and so that the open sides of the napkin are facing you. Fold each of the sides in to the center. Then, fold the right side over to the left side to fold it in half. Leave the napkin in this position.

Decide if the napkin is too long to be a small baby’s outfit and, if needed, trim a bit off across the bottom. Then, make a couple of cuts and you’ll create the adorable baby outfit. On the left side – the side that features two folds – make a cut to create a waistline for the baby outfit. Cut out a triangle for one look or an arc shape for a slightly different appearance.

At the top of the napkin, in the middle, cut a half-circle shape to create the neckline. Or, make a triangular cut to create a v-neck. If the outfit will be a boy’s, cut a slanted triangle, from the open edges at the bottom – in the center, and over to the fold. When you’ve cut the two side shapes, and the neckline, and the optional legs, you can open the napkin once. You’ll see you’ve created a cute onesie-type outfit.

Embellish the outfit – but not too much. Tie a pink or blue ribbon, cord, or yarn piece, around the waist. Tape very narrow cord or ribbon to the ankle hems, the dress hem, or even the neckline, if you want.
The paper napkin baby shower outfit is unforgettable and will fit nicely into a scrapbook. Want something even nicer for them and yourself? Use cloth napkins to make the tiny outfits. You – and your guests – will each want to keep one as a keepsake of your beautiful baby’s shower.
