On Christmas Eve

The stillness of the night

All is very quiet

Above the layer of snow

The moon shines softly bright

The children wait to see

What may be beneath the tree

I hear the jingle of the bells

Though I listen close I cannot tell

Is it a horse-drawn sleigh?

Or could Santa be on his way?

This is for parents to know

As off to bed the children go

In the morn all shall see

For tonight, tonight is Christmas Eve
