Nightfall is something I came across on the website archive,org and as a fan of horror stories indulged in listening to some of the episodes. I iked it and would like to share exactly what Nightfall is. If you were from Canada or surrounding areas in the 80s then you might have gotten to listened to it on the radio. I wasn’t born then but now get a chance to listen to thanks to the internet. Each episode has its own uniqueness and some are freaky.
Before I start talking about the episodes that I enjoyed here’s a little background of this radio show. The first air date was on July 4th, 1980 and the first episode was “Love and the Lonely One.” It was aired by CBC broadcasting and some episodes were so terrifying that some affiliate stations dropped it. The last air date was May 13th, 1983 and that episode was “Waters under the Bridge.”
The episodes that I found personally good are these:
All Nighter
The first episode I ever listened to and it was very suspenseful. An aspiring actress works at a Laundromat and finds human skin in the one of the dryers and then things get really weird. I thought it was good and creepy.
Buried Alive
One of the more humorous episodes about a hypnotist who fakes his death for money and learns that his wife has a lover and probably won’t be saving him from being trapped a grave. Not a scary story instead it showcases irony.
The Old Post Road
A good ghost story about a couple who are going to a dinner engagement decide to take a shortcut but then learn that they should have never taken it. I felt like it was suspenseful and the actors made it even more dramatic and shocking.
Wind-chill
I felt chills from this story, a woman is caught in a snowstorm and a young man finds her and takes her to his cottage. She is flattered and feels safe besides the crying of a ghost child outside. Makes it even a creepier story because you’re listening to it than watching it.
Cemetery Stop
Not the best but still holds up as a good horror story. A recently widowed man is haunted by a woman who keeps insisting to get off by the cemetery.
The Dentist
This one was a very good story with some humor in it. Nobody likes to go the dentist well listening to this will give you another reason. A woman gets a new job and works for a very weird and sinister dentist who likes to operate on his patients and not just on their teeth.
So those are just some of them that send chillers down your spine. If you’re a horror buff you have to listen to this show.
