The New Golden Dragon currently located at 1518 South Main Street in Salt Lake City, Utah is Delicious!!!! I think everyone can say that they have had a lot of Chinese food. We all know it can be pretty hard to find something good and authentic. In my opinion the New Golden Dragon does just that.
They have two ways of serving. You can order off the menu or you can order off the carts going around the room. (I do believe they only do the carts on Sunday.) These carts are like a buffet. They serve all sorts of interesting food that doesn’t seem to appear on the menu. They are specialties and wonderful. I tried the mix meat roll. I’m not sure what the meat was but it was good. The meat was wrapped in a egg roll wrap (which I believe they boiled or baked) and covered in a gravy commonly found on egg-fou-yung.
For dinner there were three of us, so we decided to do the family dinner. In this dinner you get to choose your own main dish. What you share is a bowl of ham fried rice, and appetizers. The appetizers are foil wrapped chicken, fried shrimp, and egg rolls. It was so much food we had tons of left overs. The family dinner is only $9.95 a person and well worth the price.
The three dishes that we choose for our dinner (and shared) were Mongolian beef, Sweet and Sour chicken, and General Tsao chicken. The Mongolian beef was juicy and tender, and the zucchini in it was a delicious touch. This one says spicy on the menu and it really is, so be wary if you don’t like spicy food. The Sweet and Sour chicken was perfection. The General Tsao chicken says it’s spicy on the menu and it has a nice little after kick to it. Your first taste it will be sweet and delectable, then after you swallow you taste the spicy kick It is one of my favorite Chinese dishes and I believe that the New Golden Dragon makes it taste authentic.
I tried the Jasmine Tea here at the New Golden Dragon and I fell in love. You wouldn’t think that such a pretty smelling flower would make a good tea, but try it and you will see! Their Jasmine tea is satisfyingly fresh tasting, and very soothing.
The New Golden Dragon is moving to a new location at 1716 South State Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. If your in downtown Salt Lake looking for some good Chinese look no further than The New Golden Dragon. I rate them 5 out of 5 stars.
