My Wine & Special Spirit

Grace placed her hand over my wine glass and said, “Please, no drinking tonight.”

I smiled back. “No harm in having a few drinks.”

Grace’s smile faded. “More harm than you can imagine.”

Grace was lovely. I only met her an hour ago by chance. I was walking into the local bar, ready to have my usual beers after work, and there she was. Grace was walking out of the bar when she told me that I didn’t have to go in and if I wanted, I could have dinner with her instead. I’m nobody’s fool, so of course I picked the beauty in front of me.

Now here we were enjoying a meal. It was strange having all this attention on me. I usually only had the drunk girls at the bar give me the time of day.

Grace suddenly looked up and said, “It’s time. We must leave.”

I was about to protest but she abruptly stood and started walking towards the door. I followed her outside the restaurant and I heard a big bang. I looked and there in the street was a car who just hit a telephone pole. I ran into the street to see if I could help out the driver and to my horror, it was my friend who I was supposed to meet at the bar, dead.

My world started to spin and suddenly I was standing in a cemetery.

Grace was holding my hand and she said, “That was supposed to be you in that car. I hope you have learned your lesson here tonight because I won’t be back.”

And just like that……gone. Grace had vanished. I looked down at the grave in front of me and the tombstone read: Grace Tate 1970-1991

I awoke in my bed and realized that my beautiful date had been a spirit sent here to save my life. Needless to say, I would never drink again.
