Living in a small town, you tend to rely on local business, and don’t often enjoy having larger corporations coming in and taking away business from the smaller stores that you enjoy shopping at. This is the case for local movie theaters in Clatsop County in Oregon.
In Clatsop County there is a total of three movie theaters to choose from. The only issue is that two of them are owned and operated by rather large corporations. Having large corporate movie theaters means you have a large selection of movies, but at a large cost to you. Not only is it a small fortune to get into the movie itself, but if you want anything to eat, that is going to set you back a pretty penny as well.
As stated earlier, two out of the three movie theaters in Clatsop County are operated by corporations. This means that there is still one theater that is still ran by that amazing small town personality. The Colombian theater in Astoria, OR is on of my personal favorites. First off they have some of the most amazing prices I have ever seen for a movie theater. Four dollars for adults and just two dollars for kids. Most larger movie theaters are averaged at around six dollars a person which adds up pretty fast when you take the whole family out. This also gives you a little extra to spend on goodies to enjoy during the movie.
Speaking of goodies that brings me to another favorite thing about the Colombian. Most theaters offer popcorn, assorted candy bars, and even the occasional ice cream treat. The Colombian offers something much better than that, and that would be pizza and beer. A good movie, a couple slices of amazing pizza and an ice cold beer or two, can it get much better? I don’t think so!
The only negative thing about the Colombian theater is the movie selection, because from time to time they can have one to three movies and that’s all. In some minds this might not be a negative, because like they saying goes, “quality over quantity”. There is an added bonus to going to the Colombian Theater as well, and that is the Colombian Café located next door. The Colombian Café has some of the greatest seafood in Oregon, if not the country. If you are ever in Astoria, don’t just pass by the Colombian, take advantage of the opportunity to get the best local hospitality you will ever receive.
