While sitting in my local unemployment office I had plenty of time to think to myself with the enormous number of people filing claims the lines where beyond insane. I was there for my second monthly review and to go over my job searches. Others around me had just been laid off due to their jobs moving overseas. Welcome to my world, where companies drop employees like a bad habit!
My time came and I sat down in front of the state employee. She went over my job searches and I was qualified for every one of them but had not received any calls for an interview. Next we went over my job history and my previous places of employment. She suggested that I apply at McDonalds because they were hiring. Of course, I had fast food experience from when I was a teenager but my life style had adjusted to an income that was four more dollars on the hour compared to McDonalds minimum wage, crappy pay scale. I refused and told her that her suggestion was completely absurd. I told her that I was going to do the job searches on my own and that I did not need an illiterate opinion. I left and went on to do other errands I had scheduled.
While standing in line at my local grocery store, I overheard two women discussing local businesses laying people off. One of the ladies said, “These people can get jobs. McDonalds is always hiring. They need to get off their lazy butts and go to work.” I just left the unemployment office and needless to say I was not in a great mood nor am I one to hold my tongue. I looked at the lady and said, “Would you work at McDonalds?” I never got a reply.
My day not only was horrible but a true eye opener. McDonalds is one of the worst corporations in America. It’s where the over-worked and under paid struggle to survive. They are always hiring because anyone with common sense knows they cannot pay their bills with that type of income. Even the unemployed cannot afford to put an application in at McDonalds because they are wealthier sitting at home waiting on a phone call for a better opportunity.
