Marshmallow Bones

Don’t repulse your Halloween guests with disgusting foods; make foods with a scary theme, without creating nauseating snacks and desserts, and your guests will be much more satisfied. It’s not hard to put together an array of delicious foods which aren’t so disturbing. One thing that goes right along with a Halloween theme is a bone. And, when you make edible bones for your party or for your family, they’ll all come back for more.

It’s a simple matter to serve your guests edible bones for Halloween. They look perfect in their surroundings and taste scrumptious. Just start with pretzel rods and marshmallows to make the bones. The rod pretzels are much large in diameter than pretzel sticks but have the same basic shape.

Use full-size marshmallows to make the ends of the bones. The colors of the marshmallows do not matter. Simply push a marshmallow onto each end of the pretzel rod. Don’t push the rod through either of the flat sides of the marshmallows; find an area on the side of the marshmallow and push the rod about halfway into the marshmallow in that area. Make much smaller versions of the bones by using regular pretzel sticks and miniature marshmallows.

After each pretzel rod has a marshmallow on each end, use white candy melts to give it all a smooth bone look. The candy melts will completely cover the brown pretzel rod as well as any color of marshmallow. The candy melts can be found online or can be purchased in the candy-making section of a large craft store. Follow the instructions on the package to melt the candies in a deep bowl.

Place one of the bones in the white candy melt and cover it completely and quickly so that the pretzel doesn’t get soggy. Remove the bone with a fork and allow the excess candy to drip off of it. Set the finished bone on a cookie sheet which has been covered with wax paper or parchment paper. Allow the candy to set at room temperature. If you want to give them a bloody look, apply a bit of red frosting, and spread it with a knife. Serve them as they are or wrap them to give them as treats to others.

The pretzel and marshmallow bones are perfect for creating a Halloween theme with the foods. They’re perfect for a spooky party or just to serve to your own family.
