Leprechaun Kisses

I remember that I was in the second grade, which would make me around eight years old. I remember learning about Leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day. Our teacher repeatedly told us that we were to wear green on this specific day, or the Leprechauns might pinch us. At first, I think we were all very confused at what a Leprechaun was, but our teacher began reading this story about Leprechauns and them kissing us with their green lips. I thought that the whole story was quite funny.

I remember going home that afternoon, getting off the bus, and running straight to my closet because the next day was St. Patrick’s Day, and I had to find something that was green. I remember finding this green shirt in the dirty laundry hamper, and my Mother exclaiming to me that I was not going to wear that dirty shirt, and that she wasn’t going to be able to wash it by tomorrow. I threw a huge fit, saying she had to, begging her to please wash it- needless to say, she washed my green shirt, I was not going to be pinched!

I couldn’t wait to get to class, because our teacher had told us several days before that a little red-headed Leprechaun was going to be visiting our school, and would give us a kiss with his green lips. I think that we were all excited, and didn’t know what to expect. I remember that our teacher announced that it was time to go outside for recess, and that we were to close our eyes while we were standing in line, and I heard giggles coming from my classmates, when finally something hit my cheek. The teacher screamed “Oh my goodness, I got kissed, and it looks like you kids did too!”
