Labor Day Weekend Events in Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Murfreesboro Tennessee is the heart of Rutherford County. Every year the city hosts many events. One of the largest Labor Day weekend opportunities will be held at the Stones River National Battlefield. As posted in the Murfreesboro Post by Michelle Willard the following event will take place and all will be welcome to attend:

STONES RIVER NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD
“Fighting for Home and Hearth” profiles the stories of Battle of Stones River soldiers from the Murfreesboro area. Visitors will hear their stories and watch those drill and fire weapons this weekend.

Programs are offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the battlefield.

Follow a Union or Confederate unit through their trials at the Battle of Stones River with “We Fought at Stones River.” The program, designed to impart a better understanding of the Civil War era and the Battle of Stones River, will be held Friday at 2 p.m.

All other on-going educational programs at the battlefield are suspended for the weekend because of the two-day, “Fighting for Home and Hearth.”

All programs at the battlefield are free and open to the public. For more information call John McKay at 893-9501 or visit the battlefield website at www.nps.gov/stri.

Another event that is hosted in Murfreesboro is the NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet and the second week in the high school football schedule. The Murfreesboro Post also advertises this event and everyone is welcome to attend as well. If you are a student at MTSU, please come and support your fellow classmates and former classmates for this spectacular event.

NAACP ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND BANQUET
NAACP honors the Woman and Man of the Year at the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday in MTSU’s James Union Building.

Guest speaker Rev. John Brown of Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville will address the crowd. The banquet is sponsored by The Murfreesboro Branch of the NAACP, MTSU’s NAACP College Chapter, and the Murfreesboro-Rutherford County NAACP Youth Council.

Admission is $25 for Adults, $12 for students or $200 for table of eight. For more information call Florence Smith at 896-1897 or Mary Wade at 895-7548.

If you are a car lover and enjoy going to all the local car shows, there is a show hosted by the famous Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club that you will not want to miss. The Murfreesboro Post also has the event listed in their ad as follows:

MUFREESBORO HOT ROD CLUB

Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club holds its cruise-Ins every Friday night between May and October at the Mercury Plaza on the corner of Middle Tennessee and Mercury Boulevards.

On an average Friday, the cruise-In has between 350 and 400 cars, said Ron Merritt, a long time MHRC member.

All takes is a $1 donation to the car club to park and look at the other cars. Donations contribute to a Christmas children’s charity fund.

These are three of the most exciting events that you will not want to miss this Labor Day 2011.
