Illinois State University Suicide Jumper Reportedly from France

The suicide jumper at the Watterson Student Residence center dorms on Illinois State University’s campus has been confirmed as Alexandra Radulescu, a 45 year old woman living in France. At around 5:30 central time on the night of October 30, 2011, Radulescu began climbing the buildings scaffolding which was in place because of an ongoing renovation project. Police were immediately notified of the trespasser and arrived at the scene at around 5:45 pm. Police quarantined the area and made efforts to communicate with the disgruntled individual but efforts were unsuccessful. After climbing to an elevation of around 200 feet or approximately 20 stories, Radulescu jumped to her death and was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:30 pm. Watterson Towers, is the tallest student residence hall in the United States. It is a twin tower superstructure that stands 28 stories and 300 feet tall. The dormitory is home to 2,200 students on Illinois State University’s campus. This is the first death as a result of a fall on the University’s campus since 2001. The University is now providing a counseling service for students who witnessed the event or were traumatized by it.
