How to Paint Appliances to Look like Stainless Steel

Turn nearly any household appliance into a sleek looking stainless steel color.

You like have a good number of appliances both in your kitchen and around your home. Refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, washers, coffee machines, and so on. Appliances typically come in standard colors such as black and white with stainless steel coloring usually only found on actual stainless steel appliances.

But did you know that you can paint most appliances to look like stainless steel?

You’ll want to do the following in a well ventilated area.

The first thing you’ll want to do is unplug the appliance and wipe off the appliance with a damp rag or sponge. Wait for it to dry. Then put some painter’s tape on the appliance to cover up openings, ports, controls, displays, and other sections you do not want to be a stainless steel color.

Choose either a liquid stainless steel that is actually stainless steel in liquid form or choose a spray paint with a stainless steel coloring to it. Either way the appliance will look like it is stainless although with the first option it actually now has some steel on it.

If using the liquid stainless steel paint, apply it in long even strokes across the surfaces of the appliance that you want to look stainless. If using the spray paint, hold the nozzle a few inches from the surface and spray evenly while moving back and forth slowly in a steady motion until all surfaces are covered.

Allow the one coat of paint to dry. If the old color still shows through you’ll need to add another coat or two.

Remove the painter’s tape when finished and you have an appliance that looks like the real stainless steel deal.

Do not attempt this on compressors, exposed wires of the appliance, exposed cooling or heating coils, or on materials that may be damaged by paints. Only use high temperature appliance paint for appliances that get warm or hot such as toasters. You may need special paint for stove tops for especially high heat conditions.
