How to Be a Better Salesperson

In the business world, a sales person is a type of seller that is known as a professional salesperson. As the old business saying tells the story right: “Nothing happens until someone sells something.” A company counts on you to not only sell the product but also to lay the groundwork that makes it happen; however, more likely you are the most expensive employee in a company’s marketing campaign, which is the reason why there is so much pressure for you to generate sales.

Here is a list of the things that a company may expect from you:

Create value for your company’s firm Manage clients and your professional relationship with them Inform your company about consumer trends and giving them feedback on effective sales and marketing strategies. Consider that you also act as a liaison for your customers; you may come back to your company with a customer’s request which can include a change of price, quicker delivery, more value added to the product, and so forth. By voicing your customer’s needs you also help your company improve their customer’s relationships. Your main goal should be to act on behalf of both buyers and sellers but to act ethically and professionally when doing so.

Now that we have established a general list of responsibilities, here is some feedback from consumers that will help you be a successful salesperson if you follow them:

First impression and friendliness

Consumers look for salespeople that give them a “good vibe” so first impressions are very important. Also consider a genuine friendliness but do not act over the top because then you could looks and sound fake (please don’t use words like honey, sweetie or anything close, keep it professional)

Be informative and enthusiastic of the products you offer

A good salesperson has to know his/her products inside out, consumers love salespeople that strive to be informative and can answer their questions and concerns quickly and with confidence.

Follow up with your costumers and make sure you remember their names, a good idea may be to write notes as you talk to them if you can’t rely on your memory because you are overwhelm with clients.

Have a genuine interest in their needs and be a good listener.

Remember that showing your customers that you have their best interest and being genuine will not only help you make the sale but also have repeat business from loyal customers. Being a good listener is also a great virtue that you must cultivate, customers love a salesperson that remembers all their needs and wants.
