How to Avoid Wardrobe Malfunctions

Wardrobe malfunctions might be cute and beneficial to celebrities, but in the real world when your clothes let you down, it’s never good. Take precautions before standing before the board for a presentation or meeting with your child’s teacher. You can’t predict and prevent every event but some wardrobe problems can be avoided. Give yourself plenty of time to make the necessary clothing changes if you spot possible problems. Unless you’re Superman, you won’t have a second chance to make a good first impression.

Invest in Mirrors: Mirrors never lie, sadly. If a three-sided mirror isn’t feasible for your digs, at least invest in a long mirror and a wide hand mirror. Hang the long mirror in an area that has good lighting. Before heading out of the house, turn your back to the long mirror and hold the hand mirror in your hand. Verify that pantyhose aren’t tucked in your underwear and that your clothing has no obvious holes or tears.

Buy Gap Tape: If you have a generous bust or if your shirt is too tight across the chest, you’ll notice gaps. Unless you want the grocery store bag boy having a “peek-a-boo” use gap tape. This double sided invention is clear and is sticky on both sides. Simply unpeel the tape and press it on the shirt’s opening. Press the shirt edge down over the tape, sealing the gap shut. Gap tape is a good investment if you want to prevent wardrobe malfunctions.

Wear Good Undergarments: Underwear, like bra straps, thong straps or girdle hems should never be seen. You want your new hairstyle, fantastic presentation and chipper attitude to get noticed not your unmentionables. Avoid wearing strapless tops if support is an issue. Don’t wear sleeveless shirts if they show your bra unless you plan on wearing a trendy jacket or cute sweater. Wear the proper size underwear so nothing bulges or looks unflattering.

Don’t Downsize: Nobody wants to admit they’ve gained weight but when it happens, the best wardrobe idea is to face reality. Wearing clothing that’s too small only emphasizes the extra pounds and straining buttons and zippers can lead to embarrassing situations. Try on clothing before you buy it or at least keep receipts so you can return the items for a larger size. A snug fit is okay as long as seams are obviously strained or you feel uncomfortable. Bend and squat in snug pants before wearing them out to verify that the garment is sturdy for wear in public.

Deal with loose buttons and crooked zippers immediately. If you wait to fix a button, you may forget and end up with an embarrassing gap. Be proactive and you’ll look great all the time.
