Hopper’s Grill and Brewing Company: A Restaurant Review

Hopper’s Grill and Brewpub is located at 890 E. Ft. Union in Midvale, UT is a local brewery and restaurant. Anyone who’s been in the area knows the place from the giant brew vats. Despite the brewpub title, Hopper’s is a great family gathering place with excellent food and atmosphere. They also have a bar area for easy seating and for getting together to watch a game.

Hopper’s food is typical Grill fare ranging from burgers and sandwiches to Italian dishes and pizza. The pricing is in the mid-range, running around $11 a dish. The smoked pesto pizza is particularly enjoyable, as is the salmon Caesar salad. If you’re looking for something a little more meaty, try the garlic burger with a 1/2 pound patty. They have some great appetizers, particularly when it comes to the Hopper’s Brew Cheese, which is a blend of Gouda and Gorgonzola, with bread for dipping. The only thing is that the bread doesn’t go as far as the cheese.

Hopper’s is not only a Grill, but a Brewpub and this is where it falls a little big below par. The beer selection is good with typical favorites like their “Oh My Hefeweizen,” “Uno Mas” or Mexican style lager, and “This is the Pilsner.” They also have seasonal offerings. While the beer is not terrible, it often seems to be flat. I was particularly disappointed with the famous orange honey wheat. It was more like drinking orange drink, rather than beer. While the beer is not my favorite, it still can be refreshing with a meal and the food at Hopper’s more than makes up for it.

So, if you’re looking for some great food and a great gathering place for family or friends, Hopper’s is the a great place to be in the southern Salt Lake Valley.
