Herman Cain on the Michael Savage Show

Introduction

I have described Herman Cain as a great candidate with great disadvantages. After hearing him interviewed on the Michael Savage Show I am indeed convinced that he is a great candidate. He is the head of the National Restaurant Association, the second largest employer in the United States next to the Federal Government. He is a much stronger candidate than Donald Trump as everyone can relate to eating at restaurants, but very few of us will be real estate tycoons. The voters will identify with Herman Cain.

He was a mathematics and physics major in college, and Michael Savage noted that it takes a great deal of intelligence to get a degree in these fields. He went on to work for the Department of the Navy as a civilian. He used his mathematics and physics background to work as a fire control systems analyst. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Science degree in computer science from Purdue, while working for the Navy. He left the Navy and went into private industry.

Hands on Leader

Cain is a hands on leader which is one of his major strengths. He went into the restaurant industry and got his hands dirty, He made whoppers at Burger King and tossed the pizzas at Godfather’s Pizza. Many people believe that hands on leaders are the best. Leaders who get in the trenches and know what their employees are doing, and understand how they do their jobs and what issues and problems they face are the most knowledgeable and effective. They know how their organization functions, and what type of results to expect. On the other hand, leaders who do not get in the trenches with their workers, and rely on management reports to analyze their organizations are frequently out of touch with reality, and do not understand how their organizations function. They are not prepared to lead successfully. As president, Cain could get into the details of how the defense department, and the entitlement programs actually work. Then he should be able to reform public policy and make it more effective and efficient then it is today.

A Record of Success

As an executive with Burger King, he transformed Burger King in Philadelphia from the least to the most profitable. As CEO and president of Godfathers he returned the organization to profitability in sixteen months. In 1996, he resigned from Godfathers and became the CEO of the National Restaurant Association, which is the second largest employer in the country.

Running for President

He is running for president out of a sense of responsibility. The country has been good to him and now he wants to give back. He has three grandchildren and he wants them to have a great future. He can relate to people and their hard times because he comes from humble beginnings.

The Interview

Host Dr. Michael Savage made a great point when he said that this was an important interview. The program is heard in all fifty states. Savage said he has an independent swing audience that includes millions of independent voters. These independent voters will likely decide the election. The liberals will vote Democrat and the conservatives will vote Republican while the independent voters will actually decide the election. By doing well in the interview, Cain can help project himself as a national candidate who could win a presidential election.

The Economy

Cain said the economy is really bad under President Obama, and he can identify with people who cannot find a job as he has relatives who are unemployed. Referring to health care, he said Obama Care is a job killer. To boost the economy, the candidate wants a 25% maximum on individual income taxes, and no taxes at all on capital gains. Dr. Savage said that Cain could use his mathematical and computer skills to alleviate the mess on Wall Street. Savage pointed out that Cain is the only Republican candidate with real world business experience who actually produced a physical product. He has working level experience as well as executive experience. This should give Cain the insight to develop jobs for people once he is president.

Afghanistan

When asked about Afghanistan, Cain said the surge is working and he would not tell the enemy when he is leaving. He would have listened to his military leadership about when to withdraw.

Immigration

He is against amnesty for illegal immigrants because it is not fair. He has a four point program for immigration. He wants to secure the borders, enforce existing laws, allow the states to do what they need to do, and he supports legal immigration.

The Media

Cain said the media is treating him modestly. The mainstream media, however, is ignoring him as he is the anti-Obama Afro-American candidate.
