Green Sprouts Eco-Friendly Kids Fork and Spoon Set Made from Cornstarch!

We seem to live in a disposable society. So many of our products are made of plastic, and there is a renewed focus on plastics that are safe, meaning they are free of BPA, PVC and phthalates. One day I opened my dishwasher and one of the spoons I use to feed my granddaughter looked horrible! The color from the plastic coated bowl of the spoon was multi colored instead of just pink. The dyes had run.

Feeding the baby with metal utensils was not an option since she is cutting teeth and her gums are tender, but I wasn’t sure which brands were safe to use. My fears were put to rest when I found the Green Sprouts Spoon and Fork set made with a bio-polymer called EcolGreen, which is an ingredient that is cornstarch based. How they make a plastic looking product from cornstarch is beyond me, but you would never guess it by looking at this set!

The Green Sprouts spoon and fork are cute for little ones to use. They are colored light green with cute designs on the handles. You can even purchase a matching bowl if you so desire! It is so nice using a toxic free product to feed a baby with, and according to the company (NatureWorks), they are also biodegradable and compostable. Try doing that with traditional plastic spoons.

The bowl of the spoon is a nice size for feeding our ten month old, and is similar to The First Years stage 3 spoons. The fork is also spoon shaped with three gentle tongs. The handles don’t have ridges or cushions for the hands, but these are not really needed.

Each set of Green Sprouts Eco-Friendly Fork and Spoon retails for around $8.00, but can be found for less if you shop around. I feel it is a great price for such a quality product, and I feel good about using this set of utensils for feeding a baby or child.
