As the weather cools, the days shorten and the leaves of the trees begin to change their colors, the arrival of fall means more than just an end to the summer heat. Back to school preparations are keeping store employees and parents busy, as lists from teachers of “needed school supplies” come home in the hands of children. However, schools and students are not the only ones preparing for the arrival of the new school year. Recycling-focused company Terracycle has once again prepared for the upcoming school year by setting up new recycling focused activities and projects.
Already well established as a leader in the recycling/upcycling movement, Terracycle is a main provider of recycled and eco-friendly products. For example, as a means of promoting green awareness among children, Terracycle is encouraging students to use one of their many lunch box designs to pack their food in for the school day. Made out of recycled versions of the wrappers of their favorite foods, these lunch boxes are friendly reminders that even the most mundane of trash can be turned into something useful.
Additionally, students are encouraged to sign up for one of Terracycle’s many “brigades.” Through the brigades, participants in this great company’s recycling program can send in the appropriate “trash” items for their brigade; most brigades are free to join and Terracyle even offers to cover the shipping cost. For every trash item donated through this recycling program, Terracyle donates $0.02 to the participants designated school or charity. Currently Terracyle’s charity reward system has given over $2,882,500. Overall, this system is clearly a win-win situation; both the environment and non-profit organizations greatly benefit.
This school year, Terracyle has even expanded its recycling mail-in program to include old computer-related parts. More specifically, the company’s “Logitech Keyboard and Mouse Brigade” offers the same incentives as the already established trash-mail in programs, even to the point of offering to cover the cost of shipping the items. The goal for these products is for them to eventually be recycled (or upcycled) into new computer parts or completely non-technology related items such as park benches, trashcans, and bicycle racks. Through the Keyboard and Mouse Brigade, Terracyle is offering the first ever incentive-based computer parts recycling program that covers the cost of shipping.
Of course, Terracycle’s continually expanding line of products is reason enough to keep this company in mind as the school year approaches. With upcycled book bags, pencil cases, notebooks, and binders, students can use Terracycle’s products for just about every aspect of their school day.
