Get Your Puppy Out of Jail with High Style Dog Crates that Look Good in Your Living Room

If you’re living with a hideous metal or plastic dog crate in your living room, here’s some good news for you. You can purchase a high style dog crate that can actually look good in your room – although, it can come with a high price tag.

Sassy Pup Fancy Wooden End Table Crate

If your home has a traditional style, you’ll enjoy this wooden crate that can set right at the side of your sofa as an end table. It looks more like a meticulously-crafted piece of furniture than a dog crate and has an easy-to-clean waterproof crate floor that guards against liquid or odor absorption.

Of all the wooden crates I’ve seen, this would be my pick. It comes in a mahogany or antique black finish made of durable hardwoods. At $340, it’s not cheap, but the workmanship is well worth paying for.

ZenHaus

Unlike the wood crate furniture styles, ZenHaus is a completely different spin on incorporating your dog’s crate into your furnishings. Run by a team of women on the west coast of the United States, DenHaus of Bellevue, Washington offers a sleek, contemporary designer dog crate made from polished fiberglass with an opaque glass top.

On first glance, you would never suspect this stylish piece of furniture to be a dog crate. It’s well-vented on every side and comes in black, white, red or mint green to complement even the most discerning dog-lover’s decor. Save up your pennies, though, this crate will set you back about $580. But, it does double duty when used as an elegant side table.

Crate Couture Skirted Side Table

Dog Day Architecture has yet another option for crate couture. It’s a skirted side table that can accommodate a medium to large crate made from Russian birch wood. This classically-styled crate cover looks like a high-end piece of furniture and comes in your choice of five different wood finishes and ten different skirt fabrics. For $670, your guest will never guess where you’re hiding your precious pup’s sleeping quarters.

Make Your Own

These high style options are the best on the Internet, but not all of us may be able to afford the high-end price tags. One other alternative is to make your own dog crate hideaway.

The easiest way to the finish line is to gut a medium to large size dresser. Permanently mount the drawer fronts in the closed position to make it appear like it’s a fully-functional dresser – but, replace the inside with a dog den your canine companion can enjoy in total comfort. Cut out one of the side walls of your furniture piece for access and finish with a liquid-guard tray topped with a comfy cushion inside the dresser for your dog to rest upon.

If you have a large dresser and a small dog, you can actually cut out the other side wall of the dresser to create an alcove for your dog’s water and feeding dish. The result will be a self-contained unit that serves all of your puppy’s needs.

Crating your dog doesn’t have to lower your decorating standards. It just means you’ll need to explore options for working the crate into your space in high style.
