Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

1848 Oregon Territory is organized by act of Congress

1893 France becomes the first country to introduce motor vehicle registration

1935 United States Social Security Act passes, creating a government pension system for the retired.

1945 Japan accepts the Allied terms of surrender in World War II and the Emperor records the Imperial Rescript on Surrender (August 15 in Japan standard time).

1801-1870 David Farragut was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He was the first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy. He is remembered in popular culture for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay, usually paraphrased: “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” by U.S. Navy tradition

1829-1909 William Stanley was an engineer who designed and made precision drawing and mathematical instruments, as well as surveying instruments and telescopes, manufactured by his company “William Ford Stanley and Co. Ltd.”

1843-1926 John H. Moffitt was a United States Representative from New York and the recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Civil War.

1871-1943 Joe Kelley, American baseball player, Hall of Fame Outfielder/Manager

1863-1951 William Randolph Hearst, American newspaper magnate

1955-1861 Herbert Putnam was an American lawyer, publisher, and librarian. He was the eighth (and also the longest serving) Librarian of the United States Congress from 1899 to 1939.

1928-1992 Tony Williams, American singer (The Platters)

1918-1999 Pee Wee Reese, American baseball player, Hall of Fame shortstop for the Brooklyn/ LA Dodgers, he also supported his teammate Jackie Robinson
