The Village Conery is in the town of Salvo in sunny North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It has been said to be the best ice cream in Salvo or Rodanthe, N.C., better than Dairy Queen!

The Conery as it is commonly known as offers a variety of Hershey’s ice cream, Via Veneto Italian Ices and numerous creations such as the Conery Coolers which are milk shakes, but instead of having the milk, you get coffee. Speaking of the milkshakes, tired of the normal vanilla, chocolate and strawberry some places offer? Need something without sugar added? The Village Conery offers no sugar added/reduced fat flavors as well as yogurt flavors. The Conery is the place you want to go with their wide range of flavors it makes it hard to decide just what you want to eat, or drink. Celebrating a birthday? If you are feeding a large number or just want more ice cream cake to yourself, there is 13″ (serves 22-26) vanilla and chocolate crunch for $28.

Not only will you get a range of delicious flavors of ice cream daily (flavors change on a daily basis), but you will also be created with smiling friendly faces. The employees of the Village Conery always have a smile on their face and display a love for their job and customers. You just might find one or two of the employees running around the area in ice cream suits that they decide to wear on their time off to help visitors know of the ice cream shop. You can always find the employees laughing, joking with each other; just downright enjoying their job. Not only do they have fun with each other, but they have fun with the owners. You may possibly find an employee randomly being quizzed on the flavors of ice cream offered just for the fun of it.

Former customers have said “My family has been spending summers in Salvo for years. This is the FIRST place I visit every year when I get there. I crave the ice cream all year long when I’m away. I love the hurricanes. The soft serve is delicious and it has a slightly different taste to it then the standard DQ brand. My favorite is the banana/vanilla wafer hurricane! Enjoy!” and even local residents speak volumes about the ice cream shop “Best ice cream in town, even better then Dairy Queens. Recommend to anyone. BTW the ice cream dudes were funny;) They should be your mascots! ” Of course you cannot please everyone and some people don’t like the cash-only policy.

The Conery began in 2000 and is a family owned business, a mother and daughter team. According to the employees “you couldn’t ask for better bosses.” When many businesses get busy, owners normally don’t jump the line and do the dirty work (some do, most don’t). The owners of the Village Conery in Salvo do however. They will jump right in the line and get to the dirty work. They help the employees even at close and open times. The owners Carol and Cheryl both care about their employees and are a part of their lives not only as a boss but also as a friend. That kind of relationship is rare to find among employees and employers, it is great to see when you come into a shop and see such harmony among those who help make it run as smoothly as those who work at the Conery.
