It was the verdict that shocked the nation and said: Where was justice for little Caylee? Cindy finally acknowledges that there may be a deeper reason for her daughter’s behavior. She thinks that Casey definitely has some type of mental illness!
George is fairly certain that his daughter had a role in Caylee’s death. George repeated what he said during the 2nd Interview. He stated that he believed Casey or someone else gave too much of some type of drug (possibly Xanax) to Caylee and she didn’t wake up.
Dr. Phil dissects what happened behind the scenes in court.
Cindy and George’s response to reports of Casey wanting to have another baby is a unanimous NO! Cindy states that something like this could happen again and until they find the cause Casey she should not have another child.
When Dr. Phil asked what they would think of Casey babysitting her brothers children, George said that he would not feel comfortable with it. Cindy said that she feels that since Casey had suffered the loss of her own daughter she would be more careful. George does not like what Casey has done to his family. Cindy said that before she babysat she would have to be cured of what is wrong with her. Later, Dr. Phil said that it seemed inconceivable that Cindy would be OK with her daughter babysitting her brother’s children.
Dr. Phil asks! How did you feel seeing your daughter on trial? They said that they had not had any contact with their daughter from the time she was arrested until the trial. Dr. Phil asks! Did you all know that your testimony might contribute to your daughter possibly getting the death penalty? Cindy said that all they could say was what they knew even if it was hurtful. George said that they knew that they had to tell the truth. Dr. Phil states! Does the truth as they know it contradict the story and series of incidences put forth by the defense?
The defense lawyer’s private meeting with Cindy
Hose Baez called Cindy and said that Casey wanted her to know something. Cindy figured they finally got Casey checked out for some type of physical or mental problem. Hose Baez said that Casey wanted her to know how Caylee had died. He said that Caylee drowned in the pool and Casey panicked. He went on to say that her Dad was holding little Caylee in his arms and screamed at Casey that she was an unfit mother and she would go to jail for the rest of her life for letting this happen. Cindy did not believe a word of this and said that she could not believe that her daughter put them through all that waiting thinking that their grand daughter had been kidnapped. Why now! Jose Baez said that he wanted to tell her early on but Casey said no. George said that he felt that they had been played. Why not invite him to the little meeting?
Casey’s lies confuse the jury and create reasonable doubt
George said! How can my daughter say this… when it never happened! George said that they used this lie to help in Casey’s defense. The reason why George was not called in on this little meeting was because the defense was hoping that Cindy would play right into their hands. The defense lawyer used George to create reasonable doubt.
Hose never talked to George about his supposed molestation of Casey before the day of trial. The allegations got started when an inmate serving time with Casey said! Maybe you were molested and Casey said that maybe something did happen but I can’t remember it. George feels that the social media made him the fall guy. The defense lawyer said! This family must keep its secrets quiet and it all began when she was 9 years old and her father came into her room and touched her inappropriately.
The defense said that Casey could go to school after having had sexual relations with her father and pretend it never happened. The defense further stated that this is something that she learned and became a way of life. George wanted to confront Jose Baez, but, they were told for Casey’s sake to keep quiet. George told the defense lawyer! You are trying to take this joy of my life away from me and I won’t let you. Cindy and George do not believe that Casey actually believes that she was molested but this was the only way to create reasonable doubt. However, still trying to protect Casey, Cindy Anthony said that the jury did not base their decision on that theory but that it was just lack of evidence. Dr. Phil asks Cindy! Do you know in the absolute core of your mind that this man did not molest your daughter? Dr. Phil said that you can be kind of a Pollyanna! Were you ever bathing or dressing Casey and saw any indication that she may have been molested. Cindy said absolutely, NO. She felt that during the time of separation, Casey would have said something because she left Caylee with George a lot. They found out about these allegations within a week after they received the news that Caylee had drowned and knew that the defense would use this.
Cindy said that she would have never taken George back if the sexual abuse allegations would have been true. Casey never took the stand but the attorney said these things in her defense. Many as well as I believe that the reason why Casey never took the stand was because the defense was afraid that she would not be able to lie under oath.
George was devastated that his daughter went free
When the verdict came forth George said that he was devastated that his daughter will walk out of court and that he did not want to see her be put to death but felt she should be held accountable for something. Cindy believes that George was so hurt that he wanted retribution for what they did to him. George said NO it was not retribution but repeated again that Casey must be held accountable. As a police officer George Anthony would have known that an accidental drowning would not end up with someone spending the rest of their life in jail and he would have reported it. Cindy is also certain that her husband George was not there after the alleged accidental drowning. She saw her husband being destroyed little by little and dying inside. If they would have known about this supposed accidental drowning then they would not have had to go through 3 years of torture.
George Anthony says that the relationship between his daughter and him will never be the same. Cindy Anthony stated that Hose Baez said that he was going to do everything he could to get his client off because he believed that she was innocent. George feels that he became Hose Baez’s fall guy. Cindy believes that their still would have been the same verdict. Hose Baez was running out of people to blame other than Casey.
Dr. Phil has a private talk with Cindy Anthony
Throughout the interview Dr. Phil had been continually calling her out about her Pollyanna attitude. Dr. Phil had to talk to her privately to make sure she was not holding anything back. Cindy said that she felt George was not guilty of any of the allegations made on Casey’s behalf by her lawyer. She continued to say that it has been hard to see him become so broken through this entire trial. Cindy said that she felt Casey was crying because of what the defense had to do to her Dad to establish reasonable doubt. Cindy stated! Hose Baez did not regret what he did, but, Casey has to live with this the rest of his life. Cindy did not buy the allegation of the alleged molestation, or that George knew his granddaughter had drowned and was there when it happened. Neither did she believe that George had an affair.
Did Cindy perjure herself?
Dr. Phil asks if Cindy looked up chloroform and if she perjured herself because she knew that it was brought up at the trial at the precise time that the search was made for Chloroform. Cindy’s explanations! Did she lie on the stand about the chloroform? She did not look up how to make chloroform. She said that she looked up chlorophyll and it prompted chloroform. She was looking up chlorophyll because her Yorkshire Terrier was eating bamboo leaves and was also very tired. There was significant public opinion believing that she perjured herself. She said that she swears on Caylee’s life that she did not perjure herself. The State attorneys office made a quote that they are not going to pursue charges against Cindy.
At this point Casey Anthony is one of the most hated figures in the country. Cindy Anthony said that it hurts because a lot of that hatred is directed towards them. Dr. Phil asks! If she showed up on your front porch tomorrow and said I’m broke and lost and want to come home, what would be your response? Cindy said that Lee and I would find a place for her but not in their home. George states. She would not be welcome in their home! Cindy said that she respects George and his feelings too much to force him to stay in the same house with Casey. She feels that if Casey gets the therapy she needs that someday she may have a normal life.
George and Cindy Anthony explain “Caylee’s law”!
Cindy says! There is always someone like us who could be hurt by something like this happening. Caylee’s law means that someone may face pretty severe consequences by not reporting a missing child or death in a timely manner. She hopes that George and she could be an inspiration for someone else.
Dr. Phil said that it has been 8 weeks since the interview and George Anthony said that he wants to thank Dr. Phil for hearing his side of the story. They lost a daughter to mental illness and a granddaughter to an untimely tragic death. George and his family were damaged by the judgment and criticism they received.
