DIY Shirt Decorations

Have that one plain shirt that never gets worn? Well don’t throw it out just yet! Think of a plain shirt as a blank canvas, and yourself as an artist. Ribbons, beads, sewing thread, and fabric markers are your medium. The possible designs to be made on the plain shirt are endless! Below are several ways you can change that plain shirt into something chic and completely yours.

Materials:
– Plain T-Shirt
– Needles and Thread or Fabric Glue
-Ribbons
-Beads
-Fabric Markers
-Tracing Paper
-Pencil
– Cardboard (Or something similar to place in between the shirt so that the fabric marker doesn’t bleed through)

Ribbons
One method of using ribbons to decorate a shirt is to simply use the ribbon to spell out a word. The word can be anything-your name, something in French, or you can just forget about words and make a heart, bow, anything really! All you need to do is position the word/shape onto the shirt and pin down with some extra needles. Then simply sew onto the shirt.

Beading
Beaded shirts have been making a comeback lately, so why not sew some beads onto your shirt? All it takes is some beads, a needle, and a thread. You can bead the collar, the sleeve, or even add random beading in the front. Be creative! Don’t forget to add some extra stitches when sewing so that the beads will stay in place.

Embroidery
Embroidery can look quite intimidating, but really it can be quite simple. First you’ll need to think up a design to embroider. Once you have that down, first draw the design on a piece of tracing paper. This way you’ll be able to simply pin the design in place and sew the outline easily. Once done sewing, make sure your threads are secured and slowly pull out the tracing paper and done! If you don’t have tracing paper, you can try lightly sketching the design onto the shirt with a pencil.

Draw Your Own Graphic Tee
Frustrated that you can’t find that perfect graphic tee? Well then, make it yourself! All you need is fabric markers in a variety of colors. What to draw depends on what you like really. If there’s a celebrity or band that you like, you could make your own fan shirt. If not then perhaps even an animal or picture that catches your eye. Remember to place a piece of cardboard or something similar in-between the shirt to keep the fabric marker from bleeding through!
