Demi Lovato Talks Tattoos & Romance with Glamour

She’s waderd through difficult times to emerge better than ever, and Demi Lovato finds herself featured in the January 2012 issue of Glamour magazine.

Set to hit newsstands December 6th, the “Camp Rock” star posed in a 3.1 Philip Lim sweater and a Vera Wang dress for the accompanying Matthias Vriens-McGrath shot spread while admitting that she ‘comes with a little bit of baggage’ and opening up about topics such as the meaning of her tattoos, her moving hit-single, Skyscraper , and what she looks for in a relationship.

Highlights from the interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Glamour .

On the tattoos that cover her cutting scars:
“I think scars are like battle wounds-beautiful, in a way. They show what you’ve been through and how strong you are for coming out of it. My tattoos say “Stay strong.” “Stay on one [wrist] and “strong” on the other. Now I’m able to look at them and be thankful for being alive. I think that I’ve been blessed over the past year to be able to start over.”

On the meaning behind her song, Skyscraper:
“It’s to every person who tried to bring me down. Everyone has the bully or the mean girl or the ex-boyfriend who tried to bring them down. For me, I think of the people who really weren’t there for me when I went into treatment. It was a really dark time for me because I had only a few people-I had surrounded myself with so many artificial friendships. It’s about those people too.”

On what she is looking for in a boyfriend:
“Someone who’s not only supportive in my career but also in my [emotional] recovery. It’s a big responsibility dating me. Because I come with a little bit of baggage, you know? I’m completely open. I’m honest about the journey I’ve been on, so I definitely don’t take dating lightly anymore. And they have to make me laugh!”

Thanksgiving is a time when many reflect on what they are thankful for, and Demi Lovato shared her blessings with Seventeen magazine this year.

“As many of you know, last year at this time, I was in treatment. I spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve away from my home and family which is why I am so excited to be with them this year,” the “Skyscraper” singer wrote in her monthly column for the teen mag. “Thinking about how far I have come in a year makes me so thankful.”

Back in 2010, Demi checked into a rehab facility to treat depression, bulimia and Bipolar II disorder and now reveals, “I could not have done this without God and the amazing support from my family. They have stuck by me through everything and love me just the way that I am. That is a wonderful feeling to know that people accept the real you.”

“Going to treatment was a gift and I believe it saved my life. I learned how to be strong and healthy even through struggles,” Lovato went on to say. “It also helped me open up about my issues and share them with others. Knowing that my family, friends and fans accept me for who I am is the greatest feeling ever!”
