Cutting My Own Hair and Fixing the Disaster

Since it seemed I could never get a hair cut to suit me, I have often wished I could cut my own hair. Then I remembered the self-hair cutting device from the 1980’s called the flowbee a few months ago. I didn’t try it in the 1980’s but felt more adventurous recently. I looked on the internet and they were still selling them.

I was excited the day the UPS man brought it. I watched the training dvd and was ready to cut my hair. Just think of all the money I would save on haircuts! I chose what I thought was the correct length in their hair-cutting tool and went to work. It has an automatic blade and hooks up to a vacuum that sucks the hair straight up so the blade can cut it.

When I finished, I realized I had cut my hair way too short. I was embarrassed to even leave the house looking like that so when I did I wore a baseball cap. I tried ordering a short wig, and it was delivered a few days later. It looked so fake, I decided the baseball cap looked better. Then I got an idea. I cut out the crown portion of the wig. I attached it to the crown of my head with bobby pins, like a hair piece. It would have probably cost a fortune to get a custom hair piece made, but I made my own with this method. I blended it in well with my own hair, and it did not matter if the sides and back were short, the longer length of the hair piece on the crown made my hairstyle look good again. If it had not been for this home-made hair piece I probably would have stayed home most of the time for six weeks or so until my hair grew out again.

I have given up using the flowbee. Maybe it is okay for someone more talented with hair, but not for me.

Now I have found a hairstylist who actually listens to what I tell her I want in a haircut and that is important. If you have not found a good hairstylist yet, keep looking. They are out there somewhere.
