Christmas Events & Christmas Festivals Worth Traveling to Experience Across the States

While some families are home sitting in front of the television watching specials that showcase the marvelous Christmas festivals and holiday events around the world, jump in your car and experience one in person. Believe it or not, there are entire towns that come together during the holidays to put on the best Christmas celebrations one could possibly ask for.

Christmas Festivals

In a town called Leavenworth in Washington, the locals have been holding Christmas celebrations for more than 40 years. As the years have passed, the town celebrations have grown into what HGTV has named the “Ultimate Christmas Town.”

While the Christmas Lighting Festival is the first three weekends in December, the town’s “Village of Lights” Christmas light displays last through the entire month of December and run through the first few days of January. As soon as the leftover turkey is gobbled up, Leavenworth begins its annual Christkindlmarkt. This market centers around craft and food vendors, entertainment, Santa and Mrs. Claus, lantern parades and good ol’ holiday shopping for the whole family. Anyone who wants to set up a booth at the Christmas festival can call 509-548-4144.

The town will also hold its annual “lighting of the town.” The look and feel of Leavenworth is like you are visiting Bavaria right here in the United States. Other Christmas festivals and holiday events in the area include Christmas in the Mountains Choral Festival, Marlin Handbell Ringers, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Christmas bazaar, Joy to the World Christmas Concert and much more.

Christmas Events

For a truly different type of Christmas celebration, step back in time and into the pages of Charles Dickens, and visit Dicken’s Historical Village. The historic town of Cambridge, Ohio, begins its Christmas celebrations early in November and keeps the festivities going through early January. Not only does the whole town join in the holiday event, but a lifelike replica of the Dickens Village welcomes visitors from all over.

With more than 70 different scenes and more than 180 figures placed on benches, walkways and near lampposts between Sixth street and 11th Street on Wheeling Avenue, the Village now offers group tours that will allow visitors to take in more of the Christmas celebration than if they were to explore it on their own. Other holiday events are on the schedule in this festive town, including museum tours, old time meals, train rides, holiday shopping and much more.

Since the whole town gets involved, it is only appropriate to have stores and businesses named after people and places in the book, such as Mrs. Cratchit’s Kitchen where afternoon tea is served and Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball full of food and dancing. Other holiday events scheduled include a parade, Sherlock Holmes Weekend, tavern tasting, a holiday music and light show and much more.
