Burglar Bleeds to Death After Breaking into Ohio State Student’s Home

Two of the three Ohio State seniors who just moved into their new apartment near Ohio State University were shocked to find a dead man lying in their living room floor when they returned home on Monday, September 5, 2011 after spending the weekend out of town. In a 911 call, one of the students stated to the dispatcher that they had just returned home to find a dead body. Another student can be heard in the background stating that the body “is cold.”

Investigators have concluded that Darrin Moore broke a window with his hand to gain entry to the first floor apartment and cut his left arm so severely in the process that he severed an artery, apparently resulting in his death. Blood was discovered on the windowsill of the broken window, as well as a sharp piece of glass still in the window. Once inside, Moore apparently attempted to stop the bleeding with paper towels, as bloody paper towels were found in the apartment.

The discovery of Moore’s body after entering the apartment on Monday has apparently affected the students significantly; as one of the students stated that he refuses to sleep in the apartment since finding Moore’s dead body.

Darrin Moore had a lengthy criminal record, which included arrests for such crimes as forgery, theft, burglary, receiving stolen property and a drug trafficking-related arrest. According to the Columbus Dispatch, he was imprisoned from 1992 to 2001 for burglary.
