Bound for the United Kingdom

The hustle and bustle of JFK fueled our excitement as we got off the shuttle bus and began our search for gate #21: London. Pinch me, this can’t be real. Anxious and excited we arrived at 2:30 pm for a flight that was scheduled for a 6:40pm departure. So, for three hours, we wondered around JFK eating, watching the crowds and dozing.

The time evaporated and before long we were boarding the plane and being seated into our first class seats aboard Delta Airlines flight #04 bound for London Heathrow. Before taking off we were nestled comfortably into our first class seats after giving the flight attendants our selection for dinner. Before long, we took off, dined to our heart’s delight and comfortably bedded down with plush pillows and thick comforters for the balance of our six hour flight.

London Heathrow

I must say that London Heathrow was really like any other large international airport. But, the magic and excitement of its location made me see things through rose colored glasses. It was breathtaking.

After ascertaining our whereabouts, we made it off to the Arora Hotel, eight hours early I might add. We rested and got information regarding our tour on the”Hop on, hop off” red double decker bus tour. We embarked via Underground for Central London to begin our day long excursions.

Sight seeing in Central London

Our tour guide was a 60 something-ish Brit with a thick accent, huge, greying mustache and hair, with a round Santa-type belly. We set out to see such world famous sights such as the Big Ben, London Bridge, Westminster Palace, Carnaby Street, Buckingham Palace – where I did see some remnants of signs saying “Will loves Kate” from the Royal Wedding in April. I was tickled pink. Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and a few others. I might add that we weren’t disappointed.

Fish and Chips

A trip to London wouldn’t have been complete without trying the fish and chips. Unfortunately, at the Pub that we visited, they were just a bit too oily. But, the waiter said that’s how they eat “em. So, who am I to say?

Stateside again

Our two day jaunt into the UK was soon over, but not without leaving some lasting impressions on my mind. One of which is that I will be back.
