Basic Information for International Travelers Planning a Beach Vacation to Boracay Island, Philippines

Boracay Island is a tropical paradise located in the heart of the Philippines. It is part of the province of Aklan in the country’s Visayas region. It is one of the most popular beach vacation spots for both local and international tourists. Its talc-like sand, crystal blue waters and naturally rich marine resources rival many top beach destinations in the world.

When to Go to Boracay

Throughout the year, the temperature of the Philippines only changes by a few degrees Celsius. Although a sunny stay in Boracay can complete the vision of an ideal or even perfect beach stay, even a cloudy or rainy Boracay can provide a certain kind of charm without any significant decrease or increase in temperature. Primarily, the Philippine summer from March to May is the peak season for all beach destinations in the country and temperatures usually range from 26 to 33 degrees.

The dry season from November to April offers calm waters and temperatures typically within 22 to 30 degrees. Yet, the rainy season from June to October still welcomes people to go to the beach, especially in Boracay, which is surrounded by mountainous terrains that help protect it from typhoons and tsunamis.

How to Reach the Island

Most international flights headed to the Philippines land at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. From Manila, travelers coming from foreign countries take a flight either to Kalibo, the capital of Aklan, or Caticlan, which makes Boracay just a boat ride away from the airport. Most flights still land at the Kalibo International Airport. If arriving from Kalibo, passengers need to travel by bus, van or car for a 1.5-kilometer journey through Aklan until they finally reach the Caticlan Jetty Port. From there, they take a 15-minute boat ride to Boracay Island. A final ride going to their hotels would take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes via a van, car or tricycle.
