Altoid Tin Lottery Ticket Party Game

So, you’ve saved up a bagful of Altoids tins; what to do with them? It’s fun to turn them into a game you can play – with adults or kids – at a birthday party or other event. Use the tins like lottery tickets and guests can play to see what – if anything – they win. It’s a lot of fun deciding on the party favor-type gifts, and other details, as you make the tin lottery game for fun.

Clean and dry the Altoids or similar tins. Then, cut pieces of paper to fit inside. It’s fun to give the papers a theme regarding the occasion. Use scrapbook paper, cut gift wrap, or even print images from the internet. Some paper, like gift wrap, is so thin that you’ll have to fold it, and tape or glue the two sides together. Cut the papers to fit the inside bottoms of the Altoids tins, but don’t put them in just yet.

Use number stickers, paper cutouts, or other such materials, to make the lottery numbers inside the tins. Make most of the papers so that there is one number on the front, and a different number on the back. Make other papers so that they have matching numbers on the front and back. The amount of each that you make depends on the amount of prizes – or winning “tickets” you want to make.

Put a card in each Altoids tin and, when the guests open them, they can check to see if they hold one of the winning cards. Make sure you know which number gets which prize, ahead of time.

Play the lottery game in a much different way by making some of the Altoids tins where they contain something insignificant, like a sticker, a felt cutout, a printed picture, or a even a written poem. Then, place something much more special in one or more of the tins, like a gift card, paper money, or another choice. As each guest opens his or her tin, it will be easy to see who had the winning lottery ticket.

Yet another type of lottery game you can make is done with thin cardboard. Cut it to be a little larger, all the way around, than the Altoids tin bottom. Fold the sides of the cardboard up so that you create a tray-with-sides shape. Put the little tray in the tin so that the flat side of the cardboard is facing up, and write a number on each tray. Glue a bead or ribbon piece in the middle of the tray so the guest can easily pull it out.Under the tray, place a small prize, like a sticker, a temporary tattoo, or another. Make some of the tins with a prize, and others with nothing in them. Or, make most tins with insignificant prizes and some with fabulous prizes.

Have fun with the lottery game made out of Altoids tins. You can paint them or use them as they are. Guests can take them home as little keepsakes from the party.
