Match 8: Alberto Del Rio v. John Cena (Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship)

It took a while for everyone to get adjusted to having to compete in a broken ring, but once the match was set to go, Roberto Rodriguez went at Cena, who quickly hoisted the announcer on his shoulders. This gave Del Rio the opening to attack Cena, gaining the early control of the match. As the ring bounced around, Del Rio continued to go after Cena, but at one point Cena was able to fight back, tossing Del Rio over his head. Cena took Del Rio down with a couple of clotheslines, but Del Rio was able to fight back by kicking Cena’s leg out from under him. Del Rio continued to work on Cena for several minutes, but due to the awkwardness of the ring, at one point seemed to hurt his leg. After a few minutes, Cena beat the 10 count, and Del Rio charged at him for a clothesline, but Cena ducked and hit Del Rio with a clothesline of his own. When Cena would try to go for the Attitude Adjustment, Del Rio escaped and hit Cena with a drop back, driving his knees into Cena’s back. When Cena beat the count again, Del Rio hit Cena with two snap suplexes, but Cena reversed the attempt at a third, and suplexed Del Rio instead. When both men made it to their feet, Cena hit Del Rio with two shoulder blocks and then a side slam. He couldn’t bounce of the ropes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, Cena just dropped a fist onto Del Rio. When Del Rio got to his feet, Cena attempted the AA, but Del Rio escaped and hit Cena a German suplex. Del Rio took a breather and came after Cena who reversed the attack, hitting Del Rio with a gut wrench suplex. Now it was Del Rio who beat the count and ducked a clothesline from a charging Cena, hitting him with a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. Del Rio told the ref to count, but picked up Cena himself and began to punch him. He then moved Cena under on of the collapsed ring posts, then ran along the ring apron and stormed on the post which lay across Cena’s chest. When Cena made it back to his feet by the count of 7, Del Rio charged at him, but was hoisted up on Cena’s shoulders, as Cena hit the AA. He lifted Del Rio for another one, but Rodriguez climbed into the ring and charged at Cena, receiving a boot to the face for his effort. However, to do this, Cena had to let Del Rio go, and when he turned around after disposing of Rodriguez, he got a knee in the gut from Del Rio, and then allowed Del Rio to locked in a modified sleeper hold on Cena. After trying to fight out, Cena was subdued and stopped moving. Del Rio let go and waited for Cena to be counted down, but Cena made it to his feet. Del Rio would then try to throw Cena off the ring, but Cena turned the tide, throwing Del Rio violently from the broken ring right into the barricades on the outside, as Del Rio smashed hard with his back. When Del Rio used the barricades to help him up, beating the 10 count, Cena went after him, trying to launch Del Rio into the steel steps that were displaced upon the earlier collapse, but Del Rio whipped Cena around, sending him into the steps instead. Cena crawled along the side of the ring and encountered Rodriguez, who Cena would pick up and plant with an atomic drop across the steel ring post. Del Rio threw Cena into the ring and nailed him with a series of kicks. Del Rio backed up and charged Cena, but Cena saw him coming and tripped Del Rio with a toe hold, sending him flying into the broken ring post, as both Del Rio and Rodriguez collapsed to the floor in pain. Cena wen to the outside and dislodged the other steels steps, lifting a part of them, and threw them at Del Rio. After side stepping the steel steps, Del Rio attacked Cena, and got the other part of the steel steps, using them to run into Cena’s head. The ref counted Cena down on the outside, but he made it back to his feet again. The fight then took to the back where Cena slammed Del Rio to the floor in the concession area, and then tried to topple a huge equipment storage block on him. Del Rio moved out of the way at the last moment and came around attacking Cena. Del Rio threw Cena on top of the block and body slammed Cena on it. Cena beat the 10 count, but stumbled into the interview area and fell down. Del Rio then powered down the interview set, all four pieces of it onto Cena. The ref began to count Cena, who was now buried under the interview set pieces, down but Cena got out. As soon as he was up to his feet, Del Rio grabbed him again and led him through a dark area in the back, and landed back in the back of the entrance way of the arena. Rodriguez came out of nowhere and jumped on Cena’s back. While dealing with him, Cena got punched in the face by Del Rio and then thrown through the big V that was part of the entrance way into the arena. Del Rio then pulled out a table and set it up about 20 feet from where Cena lay. He placed Cena on the table and then climbed the side of the stage set up to drop down on Cena, but Cena got up and dragged Del Rio down, sending him crashing through the table. Del Rio barely made it back to his feet and he and Cena continued their battle into the crowd. They would circle around and end up back at the ring side area as Del Rio would throw Cena over the announce table at the announcers. He then pulled the top and the monitors off the Spanish announce table, but was hit with an elbow in the gut by Cena, and then thrown into the ring barricades. Cena turned around and ran over Rodriguez with a clothesline. Del Rio was back on his feet, and he shoved Cena back first into a still standing ring post, then ran at him, attempting a kick. Cena side stepped the kick as Del Rio hit the steel post. Clutching his foot, Del Rio was rolling around in pain. In the meantime, Cena stacked a set of ring steps back together and positioned then next to the announce table. He then lifted Del Rio on his shoulders and walked up the steps, putting Del Rio through the table with the AA. The ref ordered Cena back into the ring as he was ready to count Del Rio out. As Cena got back into the ring, Miz and R-Truth rushed to the ring and attacked Cena. The ref’s attention was turned to the attack, allowing Del Rio to get to his feet, well after the count of 10 would have passed. As Del Rio rose, the Awesome Truth left the ring, and Cena was being counted down by the ref. Cena did manage to get to his feet however, but was immediately run over by Del Rio with the championship belt to the head. Del Rio rolled to the outside as the ref counted Cena down, and Cena made it to his feet only shortly after the 10 count was over.
