Why We Love Marcus Lattimore

South Carolina fans love Marcus Lattimore.

He’s a talented football player. He’s already performed at a high level and looks prepared to take it a step further. He works hard at his craft and gives it 110 percent every time he touches the field.

Marcus Lattimore is not a show-off. He is a young man that is all about the business of football. He appreciates the way the game is played and treats it with respect. You could see a glimpse of this when Marcus Lattimore scored his first touchdown. This is a thrilling experience for most college football players especially a true freshman in his first game. However Lattimore wasn’t your average freshman.

When Marcus crossed the plane for his first touchdown of his career against Southern Miss, he tossed the ball to the refs and made his way back to the sideline. There was no celebration. There was no “look at me” type moment for Marcus Lattimore. He scored the touchdown and went about his business because that’s the kind of player he’s molded himself into and we all should be lucky to witness this talent on the field for the next 2 seasons(hopefully 3!!).

Marcus Lattimore would go on to score another 18 touchdowns last year for a total of 19 touchdowns with 17 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. He ran for 1197 yards, caught 412 yards, and broke several freshman records at South Carolina. Lattimore celebrated those other 18 touchdowns the same way he did the first. Give the ball to the ref and move on to the sidelines. It’s as simple as that. In this day and age when football has become a me-first type sport, it’s refreshing when a young man as talented as Marcus Lattimore shows you how play the game.

I heard Marcus Lattimore speak the other week at First Baptist Church and he seems to be an even better person than he is a football player. This is a strong Christian who believes he has been given his football talents to try and reach as many people as possible. He knows people will be watching his every move but Lattimore goes about things the right way. He’s a big leader on this team, he gives back to the community, he speaks at various religious gatherings, and so on. There is absolutely nothing not to like about Marcus Lattimore.

This young man has a great family behind him and a group of teammates that support him to the fullest. He’s the face of South Carolina football right now and there’s no better man to be in the forefront than Marcus Lattimore.
