Wedding Color Scheme Inspiration: Where to Look

If you are anything like me, you have probably changed your mind a million times about your wedding color scheme. How can you come up with the perfect colors? There are many tools available to help inspire your wedding decor. Once you have come up with the perfect scheme, make sure you have pictures or samples to take along when you are shopping for bridesmaid dresses, wedding stationery, table centerpieces and anything else involved in wedding planning. Following are a few places where you can look to find wedding color scheme inspiration.

Inspiration Boards

You can find inspiration boards online, or you can make your own using a display board and magazine cutouts, paint chips and anything else that inspires you. Start by cutting out anything you like from bridal magazines, or even home decor catalogs: Colors, patterns, dresses, bouquets and so on. Clip as many items as you possibly can find. Now, pair each picture up with any others that have commonalities (color, style, etc.). Paste each group of pictures on a separate board and choose your favorite.

Paint Stores

Paint chips aren’t just for buying paint. You can also use them to pair up your favorite color schemes. Go to your local paint store and pull all of your favorite hues (or order them online) to take home. At home, create different color schemes by arranging and rearranging each chip with one to four others–remember, you aren’t limited to a color scheme of just two hues. Once you have come up with the perfect combination, carry your chips along when you are wedding shopping.

Out the Window

Do you just love the colors of nature? Whether you have a summer, winter, spring or autumn wedding, use the colors you might see outside the window during that particular season as your wedding color inspiration. During the spring, you will see a lot of green and floral hues; in the fall, you might see more red, orange and yellow.

Your Venue

You also have to take the existing colors and decor at your wedding venue into consideration. For example, if it is a natural, woodsy setting with lots of brown and green, your pastel wedding decor might look out of place. But at a venue with very plain, minimalistic decor, you can probably get away with nearly any color scheme you choose.
