Wear Navy Blue Eyeshadow Perfectly

Spring wardrobes call for two makeup must-haves — navy blue eyeshadow and a perky red lipstick! I love trading those bulky sweaters and long sleeved dresses in on my white capris and my favorite navy blue blazer. What goes perfectly with my nautical springtime attire? Navy blue eyeshadow; however, this bold color can look a bit messy if I am not careful with the application. Wear navy blue eyeshadow perfectly by using the right eyeliner and complementary shadow colors.

Navy blue eyeshadow isn’t for everyone but most people can wear it beautifully. I follow these tips and rules for wearing navy blue eyeshadow for the best effect.

I place the navy color on the lower lid only, not above the crease or below the brow. When you apply navy blue eyeshadow up too high on the lid, you give eyes a sunken in look. Not the style I am going for!

I apply navy eyeshadow with a sponge tip applicator, never a long-tipped makeup brush. Sweeping on this dark eyeshadow with a long-tipped brush scatters the makeup around. Not a pretty look! I dampen the sponge slightly to make the color more intense. After tapping the wet sponge on the eyeshadow, I press the paint on the eyelid in a straight up and down motion. Press, don’t sweep.

I only use one to two colors on the eyelids, no more. Don’t look to get too complicated with the eyeshadow application. Place the darkest color on the lower lid and blend it into the rest of the lid with a lighter shade like electric or baby blue. Blending is important!

Never wear black eyeliner with navy blue eyeshadow. The result of this eyeliner/eyeshadow combination is harsh and unflattering. Instead, line the eyes with dark navy blue eyeliner or perhaps a brown or purple liner. Leave the line smooth and straight, lifting it slightly at the outside of the eye.

Keep your overall makeup at a minimum. I opt for bronzed cheeks, no blush, when wearing navy blue eyeshadow. To top it off, I dab on some clear lip gloss but at night, it’s no holds bar with my favorite red lipstick. Wear navy blue eyeshadow perfectly and get noticed this spring!
