Using Plastic Bottles in a New Way

Everybody knows that you can ship your Christmas presents by using, or should I say reusing, newspaper, and really that’s a good idea – it’s been around for years and is no reason to change that. What I would like to talk to you about is something that you may like to add that you may not have considered.

I found new use for plastic bottles, the same plastic bottles that you by 24 to a pack from the local grocery store. Now if you live in California you are paying an additional five cents per bottle for each of those 24 bottles. That adds up to $1.20, and of course recycling is a good thing, it’s actually really profitable to do. However, compare a $1.20 to $20 or $30 for packing material at Office Depot. Typically we use bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts or just plain old newspaper to wrap our valuables and send them across country. More often than not, when our valuables arrived at their destination, it was a toss up whether it those items arrived broke or intact. Of course with the advent of modern packing materials lots more goods survive but those packing materials are quite expensive.

This is what I do, I use the plastic bottles that I mentioned before as an air cushion for any breakable items that I must send via the mail. This works just as well as the Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap. All you have to do is make sure that you use the cap that came with the bottle this will close air inside the bottle, you can even make the bottles is large or small as you like which is something that you can’t do with regular bubblewrap.

The really nice thing about using recyclables to mail your gifts is that these recyclable bottles that you’re sending can be recycled at their destination point. So not only did you send a Christmas gift, you sent money as well. Going green is very important, it is important for the sustainability of our environment, is an important value to teach our children. In this case going green means that you actually save money instead of spending money, that you help our environment by using plastic bottles that are recyclable instead of Styrofoam peanuts which hurt our environment. Taking this step is really simple, and I hope it helps with your holiday packing needs.
