Unique Wedding Cake Flavors

Every year brides and grooms are finding creative ways to express their individual personalities on their Wedding Days. The trend we have found most original this year is the sheer variety and creativity couples are using when deciding on their wedding cakes.

Traditional cake flavors for wedding cakes have always been white (as the most popular), chocolate, Italian cream, and even red velvet. Some “adventurous” couples have even ventured into lemon and strawberry, even cheesecake or tres leches. However, times are changing. The gloves are off and couples have decided to take a new leap into the idea of “adventurous” wedding cake flavors. If there was ever a time to celebrate each of your individual personalities as a couple, this would be it! Have you ever dreamed of having you favorite chocolate covered cherries as a cake? It’s possible. What about Boston Cream Pie or Strawberry Shortcake? Bakers have become much more creative and inventive and can now make cakes that would surprise even the biggest cake enthusiast. Let your imagination (and your taste buds!) take flight and be creative when choosing your wedding cake.

From wonderfully creamy peanut butter cakes with fresh strawberry jelly fillings, layers of spice cake, maple-caramelized apples, and maple butter cream with hot caramel fillings, to even chocolate fudge, raspberry sour cream, pumpkin, and chocolate chip with various fresh fruit and chocolate mousse fillings, the wedding cake is more than ever becoming a luscious creation deserving attention on the wedding day.

Don’t be afraid to get creative with the icing and decorations as well. It’s not just the inside of the wedding cake that is getting more attention lately. Try different colors, different types of cake decorations and a little pizazz.

No one would ever know the tempting secret hiding beneath some of the beautifully exquisite cakes we see in today’s weddings. Make no assumptions upon seeing the cake at the next wedding you attend. There may no longer be white cake, chocolate cake, or even strawberry cake hiding amongst the flowers and icing. You may be missing out on some delectable treats like . . . carrot cake with orange curd filling, vanilla bean chiffon cake with raspberry creme brulee and passion fruit mousse filling, devil’s food cake with dark chocolate ganache filling and brownie chunks folded into the ganache, apple spice cake with milk chocolate ganache and vanilla bean creme brulee filling, Spanish almond cake with amaretto creme brulee and soft caramel filling, molasses spice cake with espresso and white chocolate ganache fillings, coconut cake with white chocolate ganache filling and fresh berries . . . It’s enough to make you want to go get a cake now!
